Basics of Linocut Relief Printmaking

Instructor: Lauren Sowder

Saturday, July 18th and Sunday, July 19th
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Ready, set, carve! In this two-day workshop, you will learn the basic techniques of linocut relief printmaking. We will use simplified materials and processes so you can easily continue your printmaking practice at home. You'll carve and print a series of small rubber blocks and you'll leave with handmade stamps of your own creation. Use your imagination to create your own designs and then bring them to life! This workshop is beginner friendly: no experience is necessary and all supplies will provided. Be prepared to handle sharp tools and get a little messy!

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Lauren Sowder is a linocut printmaker based in Newport News, Virginia. She is a lifelong Virginian and is largely inspired by the local wildlife of Virginia, especially here in the Tidewater region. Lauren finds inspiration for her artwork by immersing herself in nature. She enjoys walking on local trails, incorporating photography into her practice by taking photos to use as references for her linocut printmaking and paintings.
